Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard Water Board (NL)
Polder Bleiswijk is a low lying (beneath sea level) rural area within the management area of the Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard Water Board. The land-use is mainly agriculture with scattered infrastructure, but rapid spatial developments are taking place towards increased urbanisation and the development of specialised agriculture (glass houses). Minor feeders (surface water drains, small streams, springs, etc) entering canals typically empty suspended solids and contaminants into the watercourse, with the consequence that the channel becomes silted. Subsequent use of the canal for recreational purposes (in particular boating) increases the turbidity of the water, disturbing the silt and contaminants, and thereby decreasing water clarity and water quality. Province Noord-Holland (NL)
The intention of the province of Noord Holland is to develop a demonstration project pertaining to the Geestmerambacht recreational area and nature reserve. The Geestmerambacht, which is located about 10 km from the coast of the Province of Noord-Holland, is of the nature of an island within an agricultural area situated in what is referred to as the HAL region around the town of Heerhugowaard, the city Alkmaar, and the town of Langedijk. POM West-Flanders
In the region of Roeselare-Tielt many land farmers are located who deliver their products to the companies producing frozen vegetables. In times of excessive drought the land farmers are in great need of water to irrigate their vegetables. The last few years the region is coping with increasing intensities of rainfall leading to flooding and extended periods of drought. Due to the effects of global climate change these extreme situations will occur more often in future. During these extended periods of drought the limited water system does not get enough supply, in addition the water quality diminishes dramatically. Read More >>
